The solar spool is solar generated stand alone sculpture. A large drum of hollow steel tubing is fitted, and geared to a power supply fed by solar voltaic panels. The steel tubing un furls from its hub at a very slow growth, according to the amount of light energy it receives.

The machine is fitted with caster wheels so that its position can change relative to the amount of tubing it spews out, this in turn changes the amount of light it receives as it pushes its self around the space.
