Laoban sound system
Here are some preliminary speaker cabinet designs for the Laoban sound systen in China
![]() 3 way 850 watt trapizoidal, 15″ vented, 2 x 10″ mid, 1.5″ high f horn. All Chinese built |
![]() 18″ scoop designed modified for the Chinese driver and all modular CNC construction. Not really a fan of scoops but they work well with dubstep. See Laoban at Fabricatorz |
Anechonoid
This looks like a listening device but is acutally a echo free hemisphere “quiet zone”- inverse sound mirror. The pyramid shaped spikes absorb incidental sound waves, thus providing acoustic sheilding to one side of the listeners head. The center being at approximately 1.5m high.

This idea is a cross pollination between the geometries of the granite sound mirror i built in China and the Isolation chamber/Faraday helmet/throne (joint project with Jon philips) aka rejon.org. In order to work the spikes need to be made from a highly absorbent material that is also durable.
Parallel universe
Duing the Christmas break I found three tools/pieces of equipment in my dad’s shed to reverse engineer into medium sized free standing sculptures. The sculptures will be made from machined/hand finished steel, neatly connected with countersunk black oxide bolts.

Whilst working on these and measuring the originals i realised that these tools had migrated from the industrial world and migrated to a domestic setting.
